Podcasting is establishing itself as a successful business practice. It’s a great way to build brand, it opens a two-way conversation with customers, allows quick reaction to news & events and it barely scratches the budget. You’d almost be foolish not to adopt it… but things move quickly on the web. Videocasting is up-and-coming, offers many of the same benefits of podcasting and delivers a bigger punch. Or does it?
What are the benefits of videocasting over podcasting? What are the benefits of both over more traditional PR avenues? It’s free… but could we do something about
the echo? Very very difficult to listen to.
I am confused over the difference between a podcast and a video blog?
Can someone explain? I couldn’t listen to the video as the echo was pretty bad.

Hey Andy-
A podcast tradionally has been an audio file that has a RSS feed attached to it. But as it has evolved over the couple of years the podcast rss feed is the real gem not necessarily the audio file. You can also send video and PDFs down the rss feed.
So I think the name associated “podcasting” has been the best name with stickiness. The video being sent down the rss feed has been called a vlog, vlogging, videocasting etc.
At the recent PME and podcast academy Leo Laporte of radio, TV and the TWITnetwork was pushing to change the name of podcasting to netcasting.
So their really is no differnce except the file that is send down the syndicated rss pipe/feed.
rss= real simple syndication (like a paper delivered to your doorstep when ever they publish it)

I remain concerned that video and audio content from casts cannot be spidered or searched; only the tags and titles. Until we find a solution for video metatagging, or video content search, I remain somewhat skeptical on the pros vs. cons of this approach.
