Loading ...While Search Engine Optimization is a complex science, a few simple steps can greatly improve your Google ranking. FathomSEO’s Mike Murray has already shared his opinions (and a few tips) with the WebProNews crowd, but he revealed plenty more during his keynote at Cincinnati’s What’s Working Now conference of 2006.
There’s no key secret to SEO… but Mike lays out some common (and uncommon) practices for gaining rank in natural search through title tags, meta descriptions and page content. Recent studies show that roughly 70% of businesses fail to optimize their web presence for natural search engines, instead relying too heavily on PPC ads.

What was presented brought up some interesting if not quite basic solutions to the issue of ranking in a search engine. When I worked on the company’s website I came across a huge problem. The name of the company is knowledge Solutions.
270,000,000 results come back in google! It is a CMS Database driven site that I developed. Even though there were so many results coming back under google I still managed to get it ranked number 1 after a month of having the site up and running and with no PPC, just keywords and good design tailored to search engine ranking; it has never in its history gone lower than number 1.
The video of the presentation showed many things that I did, and that I thought to be obvious, and I am surprised many people did not take them up. Still some points were new and a very worth while listen.
I just wish I was based in the US, I could attend next years conference!
