When you think of innovations in web browsing clients such as tabs, the immediate reaction is to think of Mozillas Firefox or the recently launched Internet Explorer 7 by Microsoft. You might be surprised, however, to learn that Opera has been implemented tabbed browsing for years. Opera’s CEO, Jon von Tetchner, spoke with WebProNews at PubCon about the company’s plans to increase market share and consumer knowledge of it’s web browsing software.

Jon spoke about the company’s relationship with Google, and its commitment to develop a browser that seamlessly executes all of Google’s services such as Gmail, Docs & Spreadsheets, and Google Reader. He also touched on some of the browser’s feature that set it apart from Firefox and Internet Explorer, and is encouraging developers to reach out to Opera in efforts to develop web content that offers cross-platform functionality rather that limiting content to specific browsers.

No offence, but videos should really only be published if the interviewers are a bit more ‘up to it’ and refrain from phrases like ‘oh, cool’. If they asked intelligent follow-up questions rather than going by the script, the value of the video would be greatly enhanced.

Also, poor Jon (that’s ‘Youn fon’ not ‘Jaaan vaaan….’ for you Americans) has to answer the same stupid questions all over again. C’mon guys, there’s more to ask him than the same standard fare.

    Just my 0.02

PS: Flash videos suck if the pause button doesn’t keep downloading the FLV file in the background.

PPS: One of Opera’s best features still is that it opens pages in the background rather than throwing them up in your face. Wasn’t their idea though, but mine while helping them out back then. :)

The truth is that the bald guy was very crude … hmm … oh cool o_O

  4. Questions were all vetted in advance of the interview. In other words, there were things he could talk about and there were things he couldn’t.

As for crude? Well, in all fairness, this may not have been the best interview of the week, which is on me entirely. I am not a browser expert by any stretch. But crude?

  6. Brilliant, just fabulous! Really good to see posts that make you feel alive. Too bad we do not get more of these. This made my heart happy……
