SES: The First Annual SEO World Championship

Posted on: December 27th, 2006 | 26 Comments

The first annual SEO World Championship has just been launched!

“SEO is one of the fastest growing Internet media channels today. Our objective is to highlight the advantages of SEO surrounding the advertising community and help sustain the technical development within optimization. The main challenge of this contest is for a website to rank as high as possible on the organic search engine results on all 3 search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN). We will determine the winner based on an average ranking between the selected search engines.”

Sponsored by a leading Swedish SEO company, Eastpoint Media, the contest offers some interesting prizes (in addition bragging rights):

1st prize: a new car
2nd prize: a Caribbean cruise
3rd prize: a plasma television
4th prize: five hundred dollars
5th prize: a hundred dollars

Eastpoint’s Markus Jalmerot and Luar Buso took time out during Chicago’s busy SES conference to chat with Chris Richardson of WebProNews on the subject of SEO, globally and as it relates to their market in Sweden.

  1. I think the idea of a championship is great. It also sounds like SEO in other countries may not be up to that of the USA.

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
    Thanks,
    Joe

  3. Mike says:

1 million results in Google - that’s some serious numbers!!

  4. Interesting stuff - I will wait to see what happens at the end of the contest.

  5. Thorpean says:

Great idea…The SEO Championships. Should be interesting to see the outcome.

  6. Nicki says:

If I ever get time I will enter one of these competitions

  7. Paul Johnson says:

I think the number has surpast 1.5 million, will it ever stop?

  8. LB says:

The event has reached more then 1 million results in Google in less then 2 weeks. Results speaks for itself.

  9. Kalle says:

Allok, i agree, this is copied. Its not an original idea.

  10. Allok says:

The concept of three search engines has been copied from the Astromusicologie 101 contest last year.

  11. NetBenefit UK says:

Its just LinkBait. They want you to back link to their website

  12. NetBenefit UK says:

THis is a silly contest. It is a copy of another SEO contest held last year. Eastpoint point media is some unmknown company in denmark trying to get cheap publicity.

  13. NetBenefit UK says:

Jaan, i agree, this is just another SEO scam

Scam! this is a copy of another championship. These guys are idots. I googled the CEO and he looks like a knob. Dont trust it. Its a scam. beware! email harvesting or cheap publicity for their company. I agree with Lorenzo. Why would an SEO company have an SEO contest unless they are sure they would win. It is rigged.

  15. Lorenzo says:

“Site must include either a SEO World Championship text link or a banner. (The banner may be linked or not linked)”

You are right it doesn’t have to be linked, but wont link anyways? Like I said it is just LinkBait exercise. haven’t these contest been done to death by now?

This is just another scam. I am tired of these SEO championships. The company hosting this seems to be quite suspect. I fail to see any rational why the company would host an SEO championship. Eastpoint whatever provides SEO services, so the point of this championship looks like it will be rigged so that Eastpoint comes out on top. Its a fake championship. Do not enter. I am not linking to this site.

  18. Dear: Jaan Kanellis

“I mean the contest rules even require you to link back to their website”

No! You the contest rules do not say that. In fact, there is no text on the site that has that kind of statement. Where did you find the text that said you got have a backlink?

  19. What’s the difference between this contest and “nigritude ultramarine” or “v7ndotcom elursrebmem”?

Seems like any other SEO contest to me that is set up for link baiting alone.

I mean the contest rules even require you to link back to their website, lol :(

  20. Nice that it finally came up ;)
