It makes sense as they don’t really want people passing on Page Rank on the back of a link. If their is not editor to look at the domain then what is the difference between a link farm and any other site that sells links?

[...] We asked Matt if there was a preference or order of importance ascribed to domains vs. subdomains - in other words would Google tend to return one over the other in the results. He told us plainly that there is no algorithmic preference to subdomains vs. domains, so they are treated as equally relevant. Matt’s personal preference in this regard would be subdirectories over subdomains because he finds them more "convenient". Subdomains however, are useful he admits for separating dramatically different sections of a site — for example, mail.google.com or videos.webpronews.com. [...]

Page rank reduction by goole was mean, Moreover, online businesses struggle today to get more traffic to their sites, so they can make more revenue. People Hire Search engine optimization companies to boost their rankings. Bigger companies try to do self (SEO)or as it’s called in house (SEO) TO have better rankings. People todyay don’t understand that efficient and effective search engine optimization requires a lot of man power, and good skills. In stead they can outsource these services to others like Better Rrankings they are more knowledgable and more experienced than any in house (SEO) for more information visit their site, it will tell you more

That’s kinda cool, in some ways.
Structurally I always felt a subdomain looked better for a link directory on your site, using the top domain as your reciprocal link base.
Now that Google have knocked that off the chart, will the other big guns follow suit?

I think every business has to value & uphold certain rules that apply to itself to protect it’s main source. Giving PR to the highest who fit the right group is admirable, reducing their worth is less favorable given the man hours involved. For paid links, why buy them when Google virtually gives them to you if you honor their system?

It would be interesting to know how effective Google really is in producing results of sites that are not in the English language. I mean, with regards to their algorithm changing (to take into account relevance, quality of writing etc.) they would have to get language experts in if they want to be the premier search engine for countries that speak different languages (like China, Europe, etc.) It may be that they’re just as good as they are in English speaking countries.
