Ohye Says ‘Oh No’ To Cloaking

Posted on: June 16th, 2008 | 5 Comments

And to the Lakers…”Cloaking isn’t ever a necessary thing to do,” says Maile Ohye, support engineer for Google, and that pretty much settles it. She suggests keeping things basic because the Google bot is basic, a lot like the Celtics’ bench, Mike notes. Aside from being a PAC 10 fan, hatred of the Lakers is enough to keep Maile in our good graces.

I think it is about time that the non-removable Cloak is created which cannot be removed, by anyone who would like to edit an Affiliate URL.
The Non-Removable Link Cloak could be the answer for the future of Affiliate Marketing.

  2. admin says:

Cloaking is identifying a search engine bot and delivering them content that other users don’t see.

When you are doing business online you have a huge but simple problem that believe it or not most people still don’t even think about this is protecting your url i.e the website address that you send people to this is your key to success and selling or promoting anything on the net.

The problem is lets say you sing up to a program where they sell or promote weight loss products that you get a commission for as you don’t have or need your own website to do this you will most likely be given a referral url maybe something like

    http://www.weightlosscompany.com/yourusername/124715

Now some very nasty people out there will see this address in the address bar in their browser and think they are being clever by thinking I’m not letting this guy get his commission and simply re type the address into their browser as

    http://www.weightlosscompany.com

Subsequently cutting you out of the picture before they purchase anything so ultimately you don’t get paid.

This happens more times than you would like to think why stupid people think that way I do not know they are not saving anything as they still have to pay the same price in fact sometimes they pay more as they don’t get the special deal from the person that has referred them in the first place which happens a lot as an incentive to purchase from them, really its true some people really do have this crazy mentality.

Simply using a redirect is ok but the problem is still there as after it has redirected the affiliate url is then showne in the address bar of the browser then they simple remove the affiliate code and hit enter that then takes them to the main site cutting you out of the picture real cloaking get round this very nicely and it can be done free.

  4. I’m with fred: what is the difference between cloaking and a link redirect.

Is cloaking a black hat tactic to fool the search engines?

Why would you want to cloak your links?

I use a redirect link to hide my affiliate link. I would like to hear more about this.
Of course anyone who is a Celtic fan gets lots of credibility in our book…

Looks like it is going be a great series!
