I still wonder whether link exchanges are as effective. I wish there was a way to quickly get more links and faster.

Always ask yourself if a link can be trusted. Then ask again
from the perspective of a SE. What a marketer says is trustworthy
and what a SE says is trustworthy is crucial, and too often
ignored by rank chasers.
The veracity of the intent of the originating site cannot
be underestimated. A paid link is a paid link, no matter
how much you shine it or disguise it.

To Eric’s point, I found it interesting that LinkExperts is putting a sugar coat on paid links to distinguish themselves from the bashing that the likes of PayPerPost, TextLinkBrokers & others have taken for the past 12-18+ months. It’s almost as if some media pundits are validating LinkExperts b/c their language is more PC, “trusted”, “authoritative”, “A-list” and focused on Global 2000 advertisers. A paid link is a paid link and this model appears no different than other paid linking firms. It’s funny, the Silicon Alley recognition they got reports they’ll do $15M in revenues at a valuation of $100M; 7X revenue??
