Are you a blogger but want to become a pro (AKA get paid for what you do)? According to Jim Turner of One By One Media, companies looking to hire a blogger want to see someone who is (1) active in a community and (2) uses social media tools to enhance his/her message. Get more tips from Jim Turner in the WebProNews video from BlogWorld Expo 2008.

I know this conversation is a little old now but I just wanted to add that building community is easy. It’s no different to building friendships except you are online.
Be yourself and be authentic - don’t make stuff up or lie about what you can do or who you are because you will have to remember that lie for years to come!
Share your life. You don’t need to get overly personal but let people know what’s happening. I blog in the area of personal development and I could just write about what people “need” to do but instead I share what happens to me and the lesson that came out of that - relating it to personal development and my topic of course.
Be a contribution to people. Don’t jump onto social networks and start selling. Help people first, provide value in a group. Let people know you know your subject and they will naturally seek you out.
Never attack anyone, swear at anyone, or be overly rude. It is important to let people know there are boundaries to stay within but you can do that without personally attacking anyone.
And also never put down the competition - it only makes you look bad.
Just keep providing value (number one rule of all professional bloggers) and give people what they want and they will seek you out and connect with you on that particular network.
Building community is just all about being human - even in a virtual world.
Hope that helps
Diane

Just a few days ago I put the Blog up and I read your article.

I appreciated the specifics given and am going to play the video again soon.
Firstly, it was a good video.
I don’t think anyone expected specifics.
It was more of a generalistic look from both sides of the street.
Mind you I undertsand what PattyP is sayiing. Sometimes it’s frustrating when you are looking for explanations and specifics and thats not what you find.
Dr Blockbuster, yes - but if “you” were able to tell everything you know!, by the time you had done so, most of it would be obsolite. Its an ever changing platform.
Cheers
Thanks you so must at working advertising, MLM
Hmmm … interesting comments by the previous writer PattyP.
Dr Blockbuster knows how to build community but there are two things you all need to know:
1. Don’t tell everybody everything you know.

This didn’t really say anything of any significance that was’t obvious. 1. You should have a blog. 2. A professional blogger is someone who gets paid to blog. 3. Different companies have different purposes for bloggers. 4. A blogger hired by a company should promote that company. 5. Good writing skills are important. 6. The blogger needs to be able to build community [tips on this would be useful information].
This video still processing, it’s too long..but the main point, for the future, blogger will be professional..
