Known for their consistency in supplying rugged and semi-rugged cases for your valuable gadgets, OtterBox uncovered a couple of new additions to their case series’ at CES 2009 to even better protect your devices. Kristin Golliher walks us through several of these in this video.
First on the list is the iPhone 3G Defender Case. This case has 3 layers of protection beginning with a thin, clear membrane to cover the Touch Screen and help prevent scratches. Next is a Polycarbonate shell that snaps together over the device. Thirdly, there is a Silicone skin that wraps over the entire device and provides the third layer of protection.
Second is the iPod Touch 2nd Generation Impact Case. This skin is a bit more rugged than other cases, but has open access to Touch Screen, headphone jack and sync/charge terminal. The inner corners of the case are designed to drive the impact away from your device.
The 2 newest cases to add to the Defender Series are the BlackBerry Storm and the BlackBerry Curve Push to Talk. The BlackBerry Storm Defender Case also has the 3 layers of protection that was mentioned for the iPhone 3G Defender Case. This case is slim and stylish.
The BlackBerry Curve 8350i (with Push to Talk) Defender Case enables complete usability of the trackball, keyboard, camera, and Push to Talk features. The sound is transmitted through the case by acoustical vents. All these mentioned cases still provide complete access to all ports and features while also supplying the ultimate protection.

Purchase a blackberry 8310/curve in August. Purchased Otterbox defender case with in weeks.Just last week (5 months later) I opened the case and found my bb as if i had just pulled it from new packaging. Remarkable… As a plumbing service technecian i rely on my bb 24/7 in many ways, it has lit my path while crawling under homes, gps from job to job, work orders and dispatches, phone, internet and email etc… This case has taken a beating and the ease of access as the swivel belt clip holster, it has been on my side through poor weather and bad. I was amazed, smiled, then placed my bb back into its defender case. I thank the otterbox team for their ingenuity.
I agree Mike. I have dropped my phone a few times on the road it it bounced and landed with no issues.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve bagged my share. The Otterbox covers are exceptional though, so that’s why a video on phone covers…

Wow, a cynical geek taking potshots in blog comments? Will wonders ever cease? Now that we’re even, to be fair… there are phone covers and then there are phone covers. Get my drift? Point being, these folks have a lineup of covers that are, in terms of quality and maintaining functionality, heads above most of the crap you’re gonna go grab at Wal-Mart and slap on your phone. Think of them as some of the really good mylar bags you spend your saturday nights putting your comic books in.
What wonderful ideas. You’re doing a great job. Phone covers, what will they think of next?
Wow a lot of different cases. I didn’t realize that the market for phone cases was so big.
