Title tags, inlinks, meta tags, and keywords are all important elements of search engine optimization. But in order to really stand out and outrank your competitors, you have to do more.
According to Laura Lippay, the Director of Technical Marketing at Yahoo, having a great product is one of the most critical keys to ranking high. Secondly, while technical SEO factors are very significant, there also needs to be a strategy that enhances the product and ultimately pushes it to the top.
To create a strategy, first determine what you could build into your product that would make you outrank your competitors. This type of strategy includes aspects such as social media, creating a buzz, getting links, and more.
Search engine optimization is a competitive game, and staying on top requires more than standard SEO practices.

Great Article about SEO strategy, Thank you for sharing it with us..
Quality content and quality inbound links will push you to the top. Send an e-mail and can show legal clients how to move their website up in the search rankings
Yes there are so many things that go into SEO. A lot more than Title and Description tags.
Secret? There was no secret. Secret to people coming back to your site: make sure your article headlines are authentic representations of the content.
Dang my headphones aren’t working, so can’t hear the vid, still the comments are interesting reading.
Thanks For the updates. More Grease to your elbows.
SEO strategy is ok, but i think the content must be good and unique.
Setting the website up correctly is most important to start with, and then spending a bit of time each week improving the site, links, blogs, twitter, etc while your competitor pages usually stay static. As soon as your site stays static it starts to go down the page.
Nice video, thanks.
SEO should be all about the product and not about tricks to fool the search engines. We consistently build on our own site by adding more photos, content, user ratings and reviews, videos, plus more. It always helps.
[...] We generally hear from the search engines that having a good product will usually lead to your ranking better. This is kind of what Laura Lippay, Director of Technical Marketing at Yahoo discussed with WebProNews at the SMX Advanced conference this week. What tactics do you use to outrank your competitors? Tell us about them. [...]
[...] In a recent interview with Laura Lippay of Yahoo, she explained how all the essential elements of SEO could be applied to a site and yet it still might not rank well with the search engines. Her advice included creating a compelling product and devising a strategy that would generate buzz and links. [...]
Are there any software to outrank your competitors?
BTW thanks.
Yeah I didn’t see much in the way of a ’secret’. Pretty much boiled down to “competition is stiff so be better than the next guy”.
The problem with the Internet is it is all about marketing not substance. Despite what the Yahoo director starts to say, she ends up saying one should adjust their product to fit the market.
Helpful and insightful info… thanks, found it very helpful in terms of thinking of the bigger picture.
Great SEO advice, espcaially about integrating social media & other gems in to the mix.
Thanks alot for this Laura & Web Pro News :0)
thanks for a good advise.

Again, more fluff. With Google Adwords, and people paying for positions on search results pages, isn’t it almost irrelevant now what people do at the code level ? Luckily, a simple video on Youtube pertaining to your business can still leapfrog the masses …
Nice video, but it was very slim on specific actionable advice. For me the “secret” is still a secret. I guess you have to review a bunch of competing sites and then do EVERYTHING that you find across those sites and add a lot of social buzz.

Absolutely - it’s just fluff if there’s not a good product behind the SEO.
Good reminder that SEO should never be about a bag of tricks to pull in the rankings. Like every other element of business, it works when it is part of a cohesive strategy addressing all aspects of the product and its promotion.
A good wideo, but a very little information from Yahoo. I don’t seem to be able to get good ranking there. my ranking on Google is better. How do I get better on Yahoo?
Nice video, but I was hoping for more information from Yahoo. I don’t seem to be able to get good ranking there. I am doing much better on Google. How do I get better on Yahoo?
Overall WPN does a great job at getting good information out to the people. Thank!!
Besides from distinguishing yourself from your competitor. You must have great ads and services to back it up. Don’t get ranked for the common terms, go for those in your market that speak a certain way. Every market will be different, these clients have their lingo. In the world of replacement window, such buzz like energy efficient, insulated window, dual pane, argon gas, Krypton are the norm in the conversation. The succesful company like West Coast Vinyl knows what their customer are saying and how. Its important for marketing of your service or products.
To many high ranking websites, honesty is not the best policy, because most of them have been using sharp practices. What matters most to me is been honest and transparent and one fine day, you would be ranked above the pack of wolves online.

the story not of tags or links - but strategy - tactics - brandbuilding on the net (including old pr)
Yet another reminder that “just when you think you’re done, you’re Not”
it’s a whole self-revolving cycle kinda thing that leaves no room for complacency.
Thank you for sharing this video, great insights

Gran Frase:
