Ask.com to Improve Relations with SEOs

Posted on: August 21st, 2009 | 10 Comments

Historically, Ask.com has not been perceived as a friend of the search community. According to Bruce Clay, that relationship could change in the near future since Ask is said to be building 3 APIs to answer the specific question of “How do I rank in Ask?”

Up to this point, there has not been an efficient means for answering that question. As a result, SEOs were hesitant to advise clients on the importance of Ask. Clay says search engines such as Google rose in popularity because “they embraced the SEO community.”

Since Microsoft and Yahoo reached a search agreement, Ask has, by default, moved up from the #4 search engine to the #3 search engine. Clay believes that upon the API release, SEOs will view Ask differently, which could potentially increase the search engine’s market share.

“The underdog always wins, unless the underdog is biting you,” said Clay.

Wait a minute! Doesn’t ask pull their results from Google? So why does it even matter? The results on Ask and Google are the same…

  4. Yong Jian says:

I’m very sad, Ask.com haven’t embody my site, I think they have their technology is pool, I think google is better that Ask in this field.

  5. Rank On Top says:

We have been doing SEO Or Internet Marketing and We have never even thought of Ask.com as a major player, kind of like.. As for ranking factors there are so many websites, programs and scripts that can give you ranking, Personally I dont think its a big deal to get 3 more Api’s on the net.

Now If, Ask.com would have a seminar or brainstorming session with the top 20 Seo or Internet Marketing guru’s to give them tips or Ask.com could hire us to get them in the game now that might really stir some commotion and create a hurrican effect!
Thanks, Web pro news for keeping us up to date.

My sites have always ranked very highly with Ask and I just accepted it and was quite pleased with it, maybe now I shall find out why

  8. I’ve been doing SEO since before ASK.com even existed and I’ve always just about ignored them because the puny amount of traffic that even a #1 ranking in ASK.com would generate was never worth the trouble of optimizing for their search engine.

  9. James says:

I have had one client ask me about ask this year.

If api is any good. My guess is what I will learn from there will carry over to all other search engines. Bonus.

  10. That is great news…..unfortunate they have terrible traffic levels, as such most clients never ever ask (no pun) about Ask.
