Will You Use Twitter’s Business Product?

Posted on: September 11th, 2009 | 16 Comments

Twitter is reportedly releasing commercial accounts later this year. The accounts will be paid accounts specifically for businesses and will include statistics and analytics that are not currently offered.

The microblogging service has yet to make money, but will this new business product ultimately provide the monetization model that the company so desperately needs? Although details of the pending product are scarce, early speculation reveals concern.

One area of concern involves third party developers. If Twitter builds new tools and features into their premium accounts, they will be in direct competition with third party developers. In addition, Emily Sandford of ExecuTrain voiced her concern to WebProNews regarding the large number of outages the service has experienced of late. Will these paid accounts guarantee no outages?

Twitter does need to establish a business model, but are these business accounts the answer? Will this product truly be able to compete with the current free service the company provides?

So far we have had very little traffic from Twitter. We also have few followers who are not a business or marketer. Twitter is becoming more of a way to spam legaly without being entered into the Junk bin. Twitter does need to do something to make profit I don’t beleive they should charge a fee to business owners but instead make money by selling ad space like google and facebook does. Maybe allow users to post ads and share the profit!
All in all Twitter is very popular for one good reason! It’s Free!

I love using TWITTER! It is an exceptional way for one
to get INBOUND LINKS and ONE WAY links to their websites.
I am very curious to see what Twitter’s new business
    tools will be like.

I do use a few 3rd party Twitter applications now. I would
like to see Twitter display 3rd part applications on their
site as well–sort of like how Blogger and eBay does to help
their online users to get the most from their online experience.
We will see what happens! =)

Thank you so much for posting this.
Very good information to know! =)

    Sincerely yours,
    Tonya

I always thought twitter was over-rated due to the fact you can’t tell who is visiting your page and for how long. While it is great you will now be able to track site traffic, I suspect all it will reveal is that paying for twitter just isn’t worth it for 85% of businesses.

I think it is a great idea and look forward to using twitter to reach our customers.

Will actually depend on it’s features and price, they have know what they are trying to sell is being offered for free via many other sources. May be they are targeting fellows not aware of the free services somewhere else.

  8. Like many business owners, I use Twitter to socially market my safety and security web site but I definitely wouldn’t pay for a paid version. Thanks.

  9. I´m aware that twitter is a novelty and many

What I found, i.e. my personal experience was:
    1) Many corp. accounts from twitter registered as my followers.
    2) I did not receive a single comment about my twits from my followers. Most of them were related with articles about innovation, evolution, science and technology.
    3) I received a number of invitations from twitter accounts related with porn. This has no explanation whatsoever, as I never posted twits with words that could be related to this activity.

Final comment? Twitter did not help me to build a social network related with my subject of interest, so.. I cancelled my account.

I would say mostly the same for facebook… I am still waiting for a web service that would help me to effectively build a social network with a sound topic.. who knows probably I will develop it soon.

Twitter and Facebook invested quite a significant amount of money for advertising, yet I´m sure the concept has something missing that ANOTHER product will include. They need to charge for a service is doomed to close.

    Regards.

    • I totally agree with you.

We tried Twitter and it has been of no use whatsoever.

Most of the Tweets are boring, unintelligent garbage and I can’t imagine anyone visiting Twitter for fun – I just don’t get the hype.

Big Brother started out with a massive following – untill people found out just how boring it really was. Perhaps Twitter will flitter-off the same way?

What is needed is an intelligent, topic-based form of social media, as you suggest.

  10. I love how people read ’statistics & analytics’ and then presume that they know what twitter has in mind in this regard.

would i use it? possibly … it depends on how robust the back end reporting features are.

micro business probably won’t – but anyone who wants to track usage of twitter in a meaningful way and make strategic marketing decisions on the basis of this data will definitely consider it

  11. I agree with Nysilly, analytics is not a concern when it comes to twitter. I can check my sites to see how many clicks I received from twitter. Twitter has been free for too long and not many will start to pay for it. On second thought, people may pay, but it will take some time for them to warm up to the idea.

  12. So the premium paid service from twitter offers statistics and analytic, something Google offers free, you-tube offers free, and pretty much every other type of blogging service offers free. no thanks, you cant count my business out. I don’t need to know this information from a micro-blogging company, my analytic comes from when the users click the links I post. my followers are almost guaranteed to see what’s written, I do not need to know who visit my page.
