The Internet is an amazing place, but it can also be very dangerous. Many times, webmasters are so focused on issues such as duplicate content that they neglect to properly secure their site from hackers and spammers. According to Sasi Parthasarathy of Bing, security is extremely undervalued, especially, since it could make or break a business’s credibility on the Web.

Bing sees blogs, forums, and social media/user generated content as the most problematic areas online. Parthasarathy says these areas have to be monitored closely. To secure your site, he suggests:

1.    Keeping all software up-to-date
2.    Maintaining strong passwords
3.    Checking plugins

He also recommends scanning your site with anti-malware tools or Spyware to further secure it.

Keeping your site protected is very important since it not only affects you and your business, but it also affects your customers. If you would like more information on security, check out this post from Bing’s Webmaster team for a more detailed explanation.

Microsoft obviously still doesn’t get computer or internet security! It’s “totally fine” for hackers to access your site and embed links and their own content as long as they don’t do it too much?

    Totally BS!

We can get banned from google, etc. from links to bad neighborhoods. What if my my boos, wife, Mother , Priest etc, goes there and sees a couple porn links and/or a little bit of porn content or even just spammy crap on MY website. It’s NOT “Totally fine”! It IS a big deal!

  2. There is nothing new he is saying if he works in Bing does that alsone make him a Guru.

  3. As you might imagine, as a web site owner of safety and security products, security on any level is important to me. We can’t let our guard down even for a second.
