Since the search engines index any and all chatter online, it is important to ensure that your content is on top in the search engine results. Additionally, you want your content to stand out to journalists and others who go there to research.

According to Marty Weintraub, the President of aimClear, “When it comes to public relations, SEO is required…”

Because both public relations and social media are based upon relationships, social media has quickly become a natural part of PR as well. SEO is included into the equation since it is about finding these relationships and communications anywhere it can be indexed across the Web.

In an interview with WebProNews at SES Chicago, Weintraub also shares some SEO opportunities for link building in press releases. He suggests keeping SEO fundamentals in place and moving any important text to the upper left portion of the release. By doing this, you could receive outbound links that are do follow.

Y’know, no offense intended, but some of us were explaining ten+ years ago how online PR, link building and SEO are all deeply intertewined. Link building and link marketing, at the highest merit based level, are in fact indistinguishable from public relations. This isn’t new, it’s just that the PR agencies are finally seeing what us “old school” PR folks have known forever. Look at this article/intervie from 1999, from Industry Standard, and welcome to the party folks. What took you so long?
