Lady Gaga is currently one the hottest musical acts, but she now has something else to add to her resume. At CES 2010, Polaroid announced its partnership with the star, which names her as the company’s new Creative Director.
Polaroid said Lady Gaga has 5 major qualities that make her a natural addition to the company:
1. Fan of Polaroid
2. Inspirational
3. Creative
4. Connected to fans
5. Empowering
Lady Gaga expressed her enthusiasm about her new role and said, “…what I’m excited about doing is working with Polaroid and taking the iconic image of the Polaroid instant film photo and bringing it into the digital age of cameras.”
WebProNews spoke with Jon Pollock, Polaroid’s Chief Marketing Officer, who gave us more details of her duties. He said, “She’ll be in charge of directing us creatively and she’ll also be in charge of working with us on a co-branded line, a Polaroid-branded sub-brand with a Lady Gaga twist to it.”
New products from the partnership between Polaroid and Lady Gaga should be available by the end of this year.

Brilliant move on Polaroid’s part! I, like other Gaga fans, will be interested to see what creative projects Gaga comes up with and which Polaroid product made them possible. It is VERY cool and VERY exciting! GO GOG-STER!

I agree I think Polaroid made an excellent move and I like Lady Gaga too. Very creative marketing decision!

“She is our new creative director. She will be in charge of directing us creatively.” That’s pretty good. How much does that guy get paid?
The dude gets to hang with Lady Gaga. Does he NEED to get paid?
But seriously, corporate communications tends to get caught up in their simple little catch phrases and people repeat themselves rather than deviate from script. I hope this project really works out.
Polaroid messed up when the discontinued the instant camera but by bringing Lady Gaga on board and bringing back the instant camera they are on their way back up.
wow Gaga here too LOL!

I think it’s an interesting move – the polariod company is in one of those positions where they have one of the most recognised brands in the world, yet very low sales and market share considering. I guess this is what comes from having a cultural icon product yet failing to understand changes in the market and society quick enough to remain culturally relevant.
Having Lady Gaga on board may help a bit, but I think having a relevant product offering would help more – they have introduced a couple new products in the last few years, but to be honest they weren’t very good, and having a kooky celebrity on board doesn’t change that!
She is very uniq & creative artist
I can see making Lady Gaga a spokesperson, but a Creative Director? Seriously? Doesn’t she already have a job? Now regular people have to compete with celebrities for jobs? Hmmm….

I think Lady Gaga is no more of a creative director, than I am. I think it is a horrible ploy by Polaroid to catch some business for her fans and those who are holding on too the retro scene way too long. But awesome interview, about time WPN interviews some real media stars that knows and uses technology!!! Great job Abby, as usual!!!

The new area for this good consumer electronics brand has began. Great partnership.
I love her, but does she belong on the most influential list?
