WebProNews got an up close and personal look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 at CES 2010. According to Michael Martin, this is the first phone that “really will out speed the iPhone 3GS.” Although iPhone lovers might consider that statement a debatable topic, there is still tremendous excitement around this mobile device.

First and foremost, this phone operates on the Android platform. Two of the most unique features include Sony Ericsson Timescape and Mediascape. Timescape provides a chronological collection of all communication on your phone in one place. Whether it is emails, Facebook, text messages, or phone calls, users have access to all of them through Timescape.

Mediascape is similar, but it stores all music, videos, and photos in one place. In the photos section, if a user tags one photo, the device will conduct facial recognition that goes back through the entire album and tags other images as long as 75 percent of the face is captured.

The speed of the device is one of the most talked about features and is credited to its 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. Although a release date for the U.S. has yet to be announced, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is expected to hit Canada in Q1 and Q2.

Nice phone although there are already a few 1g snapdragon powered phones out there most notably from Acer. These all run on the WM 6.5 platform and have a better range of pay for apps available. Sony software dows not speed up the Phone so how can you say this is the 1st phone to be faster than the iphone 3gs?

    • Marc,

I stated that it would be the first phone to outspeed the iPhone 3GS as at the time I made the statement (Fall 2009) the X10 was to be released in December before the Nexus One which is also a SnapDragon 1Ghz.

Sony has chronically pushed back the date of the X10 which now it looks to be March/April.

BTW the Acer Liquid A1 has its Snapdragon clocked speed at 768Mhz so just under the 1GHz of the X10

Hi everyone, I’ve a niggle… Google maps keeps starting up up on it’s personal in background and getting loads of battery with it. For example, yesterday I took it off charge and it was sat idle while using screen blanked for about 4 hours. When I flicked it on I was shocked to see that the battery was only 50% full which is lousy even to the x10! When I looked at what was running, I uncovered Moxier mail (no surprises there) and Yahoo Roadmaps.
