Most people that start a blog would like it to turn profitable at some point, but how does it happen? WebProNews recently spoke with blogging legend Darren Rowse of ProBlogger about what bloggers can do to make money.
First of all, bloggers need to look at their blog long-term. So often, people think that they can make money instantly, but it could actually take years.
Having a profitable blog also involves finding the right niche. It needs to be something that you are interested in and have a passion about. In addition, Rowse suggests that you determine how monetizable your niche is. To do this, you could search for your topic in Google and see if it is something advertisers would consider.
To keep visitors coming back to your blog, you must also choose a niche that will keep you writing for a long time. How often should you write? While it depends upon your area of content, Rowse does point out that, “every post you write is a doorway into your site.” For some bloggers, this could mean 365 opportunities if they write a post everyday. However, bloggers should not post for the mere reason of having new content every day. He says the content should always be useful.
On another note, how effective are blogs due to the recent Twitter craze? Although some blogs have shifted to shorter formats, Rowse says there is also a shift that is moving back toward longer content on blogs since people want more than 140 characters. Emphasizing that blogs and Twitter are valuable tools for each other, he says specifically, “It’s an ideal world for a blogger… people want more and you’re able to give it to them through a viral communication like Twitter.”

Great interview and thanks for pointing out that it’s best to blog about something you are passionate about. Blogging is about socializing therefore what you are trying to do is sharing insights, tips with others who are interested in the subject.
Jumping in the blog wagon just for the sake of money is a big mistake. After a few months without making a dime most will give up. That’s a good thing because that cleans up the blogosphere to leave only the true enthusiasts bloggers driven by the passion and desire to really talk about what they like.
This was an excellent article. I just started Blogging and I am looking long term to the day when I have 5000 subscibers, then I can make money from my list.
It doesn’t happen overnight…JB

Thank-you for the info. I have always wondered if boots could be successful at generating funds. I also believe what is said in this blog. I too write blogs and after reading this article. I now know I was on the right track, when I was thinking that blogging everyday was not necessary. I enjoyed this article.

Good comforting information. I have been blogging for some months
and have not received any traffic as yet and neither have earned
anything from it. I have a passion for writing about families and the
way they should live in order to be a happy and closed family.
I stopped blogging for about two months as I was away for some time.
I am going back to my blogging soon. Then article was quite assuring in the sense it says that one needs to blog for a few years to get recognized and start earning
I shall keep on forever.
Great interview. I like blogging but I realize that I don’t do it enough. I am working on some topics now so that I will have them in advance which should help me blog on a daily basis.

Darren is a sharp guy! My big take aways from this blogging video were to connect my twitter account with my blog to take advantage of traditional blogging and micro blogging as well as social networking.
I also picked up that if one can tie in what they blog about with news it may be possible to get additional traffic to one’s blog as well.
Thanks for a great interview,

Great interview. I started blogging a few years ago and my first blog http://imateski.blogspot.com slowly turned out to be a computer repairs site instead of what I originally thought of it being a place where I can just dump my various ideas. Last year this time I realized that I have a product worth paying for and slowly started learning SEO, and as time went by I started several other blogs for different IT products I made.
I wish I knew the stuff I know now a few years ago, I’d probably be making more money than I do now. I do get thousands of visitors at my oldest blog, but I failed to define a niche back then, and did a lot of link building to get where I am. It now feels like I’m starting over again, but with 10 blogs instead of one. Hopefully in a year’s time I’ll be able to make a living with my blogs as I love research and writing. SEO seems to come along as a trait to learn with the trade.
My aim was to generate an income and also make people aware as to the services I am rendering. For now I have not had a positive response but I do hope I will as time goes on.
Nobody Makes money blogging and I should know.lol blogging money was spent years ago. If you want to make money today, start a religion or something related. lol
Nice interview. I wish I could attract more green bloggers to help market my wind/solar product. My blog is producing well, but I need to get others to blog for my product, maybe join an affiliate system or something.
Great article!
I have been building wordpress sites to earn extra income online. One is Anewtattoo.com. It has 55 member authors. It makes me about 4- 50 cents a day with only 75-150 pageviews a day. Adsense is now about $72.00 in about 5 month In a year that can be a nice chunk of change as it grows every week as members join and add new content, photos and videos.
Most content is done by members and the search engines bring 40-50% of my traffic. I don’t do much to it at all just maint.
I have other sites, like a dog site and a unique social site using Wp and BP. It is fun and everyone has a hobby or skill they can use to creat a second source of income. Traffic is the key. The more targeted it is the more money you can make. =)
I have been blogging since 2005 to date and I have earned some thousands of dollars to incorporate my network of 30 blogs and fast developing as the largest online news and information media in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa with over 150 million people and over 78 million users of GSM phones.
The prospects of the future of blogging in the largest market in Africa are enough to keep me going.
Blogging is an important part of the new age of digital media and it will never go away. How you use it will determine how much success you can make it.
The choice is yours.
I agree that blog can be profitable, but most newbie or blogger including me before assume that i can get profit as soon as possible. But the fact, that as you said above, we should build and increase the blog ranking in search engine and well known by internet user. I do need a setup for a year to turn my blog into money maker. Well, the point is that we have to provide and prepare any factors before creating a blog, if you want to use it and succeed for a long term. By the way nice interview, thank for the information
That is very interesting article and good information about make money with blogging. Looking forward for more.

All you have to do to complete this go to http://www.blogger.com and set up an account. It will basically take you through step by step instructions on setting up your blog. The key is be patient and write good material. When people click on your blogs be sure to give them some information that will be useful for whatever it is your speaking on. For this blog I want you to know you can make a lot of money typing blogs. The next step is to set up Google Adsense by going to http://www.google.com/adsense and creating an account. After completing both you will then be ready to get money. When you set up blogs you can attach the ads from Google and get paid when visitors simply click on the ads.
This website has helped me and I want to say I am making money at blogging. but you have to be committed. My blog http://www.WhataBusyLife.com and it is going really good.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
