While some people would suffer withdrawal symptoms if kept away from Facebook, Twitter, and the like, others still won’t touch social media with a figurative ten-foot pole. So at the Inbound Marketing Summit, C.C. Chapman provided some advice about how companies can approach it.
In an interview with Mike McDonald, Chapman, the founder of Digital Dads, stated, “Social media has to be ingrained in your culture. All the tools in the world are not going to save you.”
He also stressed, “Until you start playing with it, you’re never going to understand it.” But firms can create social media guidelines if they’d make everyone feel safer, and individuals can sort of ease themselves in by using personal accounts (as opposed to corporate ones) to begin with, thereby not putting the company in the spotlight.
And it’s not as if social media is too strange a beast. Chapman said, “The concepts aren’t new, the tools just get newer every day.” Also, “Creating good content is key. It doesn’t matter what the platform is that it’s being pushed out on, you want good content.”
So get comfortable with social media as soon as possible.
One more tip: Chapman said, “PR and marketing should not be separate departments anymore. . . . Get them together.”

Yes, totally agree about the corporate culture.

Interesting article but please stop murdering the English language. The word is, “acclimatising”, not “acclimating.” Yuk!!!
According to Webster, the two words are synonymous: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/acclimate?show=0&t=1288010570
Thanks you!)
