The fact that technology is always changing is difficult for some people. For others, it is the very reason why they love it. The New York Times technology writer David Pogue is obviously a fan of technology but admits that he too struggles to keep up with the speed at which it moves.

In this interview with WebProNews, Pogue talks about several trends in the tech world and how they are impacting consumers and the tech industry. First of all, he points out the massive shift to app phones. Today, consumers are obsessed with the likes of Apple’s iPhones, Google’s Android devices, and most recently to the market, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.

Although Microsoft is very late to enter the game, many people are speculating about whether or not it can build a competitive mobile platform for Apple and Google. Pogue is impressed with Microsoft’s efforts but points out that the company has neglected to include several features.

“I want there to be three big platforms at three big companies that won’t go away, but my heart tells me it’s going to be really tough,” said Pogue.

Another trend he discusses is concept of the Internet on TV with products such as Google TV and Apple TV. He believes that the tech industry wants this trend to be “the next big wave,” but says there has been no evidence that people want it. Incidentally, this pattern occurred with 3D technology as well.

Despites of all these trends and the challenges associated with them, Pogue told us that he is most excited about the “move toward simplicity.” In the past, the new versions of products simply had piles of features on them. This model was difficult because it created expensive and complex products. However, when the flip cam, Google’s search box, and the iPod came along, the industry realized that sometimes simple is better.

“Simple is sort of making a comeback,” Pogue concluded.
