According to blip.tv Co-founder Dina Kaplan, there are three distinctive trends pertaining to Web TV. For starters, there is a shift in when people are watching Web shows. In the past, most users watched Web TV during their lunch hours, but now, they are watching during primetime.

Secondly, Kaplan told WebProNews that users were watching longer pieces of content. The average length of one of the top 25 shows on blip.tv one year ago was 4 minutes. However, today, the average length of the most watched shows is 17+ minutes.

“It’s really interesting that people are watching longer content, and they’re watching it in their living room,” she said.

Thirdly, Kaplan has noticed that Web TV shows that serve an audience that is not already served by traditional TV shows seem to be more appealing online. For example, food doesn’t do very well online because there are already so many other offerings on traditional TV. Video gaming shows, on the other hand, have not been done very much, and therefore, appeal to more Web viewers.
