Rice University recently came out with a study that brought up some concerns about the sustainability of daily deals’ providers. It indicates that daily deals’ providers would have to lower their profit shares in order to succeed and would still face the challenge of bringing in new merchants. However, a second study from ForeSee Results contradicts the one from Rice University since it shows that daily deals’ providers, and specifically Groupon and LivingSocial, are bringing in not only new customers, but existing ones as well.

WebProNews spoke with Maire Griffin of LivingSocial about the studies who told us that while the reports help to provide checks and balances in the industry, LivingSocial’s real focus was local commerce. In addition, she said that the company is dedicated to helping local merchants.

The coupon pimps are full of crap. They are nothing but pimps tricking businesses into whoring themselves out at no profit and effectively creating unsustainable price wars amongst local businesses as well as driving down consumer expectations of price to unsustainable levels.

I would rather use Groupon but LS is not bad. I’m not sure if I agree with this study.
