The advantages of the cloud have been widely pushed over the past couple of years. But is it really all that? Jason Scott, a digital historian and archivist, doesn’t believe that it is. However, he’s not against the cloud itself, but instead is against the term and the use of the term.
Scott told WebProNews that he believes the cloud phenomenon that is currently happening is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. The term is used in so many different contexts that its real definition is blurred.
As a historian, he is working to clearly define and provide proof for what the cloud is and what it’s not. Scott also told us that individuals and businesses should be proactive in understanding the truth about it.

Scott is right on track with his thoughts on the ‘Cloud’. The cloud is simply a marketing gimmick to get people to NOT think too much about where there data really is or how it is really handled.
I agree Jason Scott had some good opinions and insights
Cloud computing is okay for non essential information, but when you come to rely on them (as my University is atm for some gradable tasks) and the system crashes then you have no control, no way to rectify, and basicly it is not as solid as other traditional concepts. When you spend weeks on a task and it disapears into thin air then I can tell you it does not mean sunshine is on the way….Cloud, there one minute, gone the next.
Just see tha movie and Jason have valuable opinions and his review about cloud computing and maybe we must pay more attention about our data and who and how is handling.

Well, sorry but I think this is one more useless video… Like if we were controlling our web hosting before “cloud” hosting. Lets admit that the critics are fair and true, please tell me what is the solution? To have you server at home? Ok, then you should not sleep and stay in front of it to make sure you will react as soon as there is any minor problem? You have to host your datas, on a cloud, or using a “normal” web hosting company from my point of view absolutely no difference, except that the big advantage with the cloud is that you can easily handle a huge pic of traffic, which is not the case with standard hosting companies. So I am really curious to hear about his “solutions” after the critics. Very Interesting anyway…
I’ve learn a few just right stuff here. Definitely value bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how so much attempt you put to create the sort of fantastic informative web site.
I’m now not positive where you are getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend some time finding out more or working out more. Thank you for wonderful info I was searching for this info for my mission.
It is rediculous that if I put a server in a server room and give people access to it I can claim I am offering a cloud based solution. You have access via one point of connectivity to one cpu and one block of ram on one computer.
Thank you Mr. Scott! I love the part where he mentions people believe “We don’t need no stinkin’ servers…” Uhhhh I thought that’s what the internet consists of. Again, thank you Jason Scott.
