Even though Google+ has reportedly surpassed the 40 million user mark, the social network has been not been getting a lot of positive feedback lately. To make matters worse, Chitika, a data analytics company, found that the site’s traffic was trending downward. In fact, the company reported that the greatest drop in traffic was over 70 percent.

Gabe Donnini, an analyst with Chitika, spoke with WebProNews about the company’s research and said that, once they noticed the trend, they actually furthered their study to find out if it was substantial. According to him, the trend actually got worse for Google.

What does this data say about the future of Google+? Is the service dying?

Google + is not doing a good job of advertising the benefits of its system compared to Facebook and other social media. It has some new ideas but not enough on the features. It is not really a good system for social networking.

  2. Google+ will not dethrone Facebook. The latter is here to stay and will remain the leader (by far) in social networking. Five to ten years ago, when we were all still relatively new to the internet & social media, it was not a big deal (and still exciting) to switch from one social networking site to the other (Hi5→Friendster→MySpace→Facebook). But now, with almost 1 billion people on Facebook, people don’t want to start from scratch again by moving to Google+. They feel like they have built a house on Facebook and they don’t want build another one. It’s called ‘social fatigue’. The ‘experimental’ phase/trend (of moving from one social network to the other) is over and people now want to settle down.

I believe some of the most important reasons that social media is waning for many businesses is due to the lack of having something to say.

Not everyone wants or needs to have so many outlets to share information with.

They REALLY need to integrate their services!
The rant about platforms was very revealing and SO right and made me understand several of the problems I have had with “Google products” for years now.
For example, I use GMail, Picasa and Panoramio. All Google, but no consistent look & feel, AND, what is worse, Panoramio does no even integrate with Google+, even though Picasa does, with an export option for images from Picasa to Panoramio. Existing Picasa albums can optionally automatically be made your Google+ albums, BUT Panoramio doesn’t even rate a mention AT ALL! It is just a separate product!!! SO frustrating!

Google is a search. If Google wants share of FaceFook fame – make FaceBook Google Search!

  8. Speaking for nothing. I use Google Plus from Lebanon and I am very satisfied and get twice good business from it.
