LinkedIn recently released its 2012 Consumer Electronics Report, which revealed some interesting insights about both the business professionals that are on LinkedIn as well as the general U.S. population. The study found that 41 percent of LinkedIn members plan to spend at least $1,000 on consumer electronics this year, compared to 29 percent of the general public in the U.S.

The study, which surveyed more than 1500 U.S. adults, also found that LinkedIn members depend on technology for time management, productivity, and efficiency. In addition, these business professionals are more likely to seek product recommendations on social networks, while average U.S. adults get their recommendations from TV and newspapers. However, both sides believe companies should have a social media presence.

With the Consumer Electronics Show taking place this week, this report could give the tech companies the information they need to market their new innovations.

As most people know, Apple released its iPad on Saturday, April 3. What you might not know is that more than 300,000 devices were sold that first day, according to the company.

As most people know, Apple released its iPad on Saturday, April 3. What you might not know is that more than 300,000 devices were sold that first day, according to the company.

While there has been a great deal of excitement regarding the iPad, there has also been some criticism. In the above video broadcast, Rich Ord, the CEO of the iEntry Network, which includes WebProNews, and WPN reporter Abby Johnson, take a close look at the iPad and point out both the pros and the cons of it.

Ord calls the device a “convenience revolution for the Internet.” Some of the most noticeable pros of the iPad include convenience factors such as portability and access. Businesses could potentially find this device easier to use in the workplace than a laptop. In addition, students could find a similar usage pattern in schools.

On the negative side, the iPad is very susceptible to fingerprints, just as the iPhone is. However, due to the size of the iPad, it is not as easy to clean. Users need to keep several cleaning wipes on hand. Another negative of the iPad is its glare, which makes it difficult to use outdoors. Also, the fact that it is somewhat heavy is a downfall since it makes it difficult to hold for an extended amount of time.

Many people have speculated as to what the iPad will replace. Instead of looking at it as a replacement, Ord suggests looking at it as a “supplement” since people will use it in places where they didn’t use laptops before. Overall, Apple’s iPad is a revolutionary device that many other companies will build upon.

What are your initial thoughts regarding the iPad?

Sennheiser is a brand that is known for its quality microphones, headphones, and wireless transmission systems. The products the company released at CES 2010 proved that it is raising the bar for its audio innovations.

Sennheiser recently partnered with Adidas to produce new sport headphones. The companies took complaints and turned them into solutions to make an athlete’s experience better. According to Eric Palonen of Sennheiser, the headphones sound great, stay in place, and are sweat proof.

Another product Sennheiser displayed at CES was the MM 450, which won a CES Innovation Award. The MM 450 allows users to answer phone calls and listen to music in stereo. In addition, it cancels up to 90 percent of ambient noise, which makes it perfect for a frequent traveler.

BeatBots are robotic characters that were originally created for research in social development. As company founder Marek Michalowski told WebProNews, the robots are very effective for children that struggle with social interaction.

Children that are overwhelmed with human social behavior are better able to adapt to a robot than a human. They are more comfortable with a robot and respond better.

The robot’s eyes are cameras and the nose is a microphone. When used in therapy, the robot, which is operated by a therapist in a separate room, encourages social behavior with the child.

In addition, BeatBots are used in dance and even has several videos on YouTube illustrating it.

The company is making the robots commercially available to research organizations, entertainers, and musicians. For more information, visit BeatBots.

At CES 2010, Phone Halo introduced their flagship product called Phone Halo Protect. A Phone Halo representative told WebProNews that it prevents the loss of mobile devices and other valuables.

Phone Halo Protect is a mobile application that runs on any smartphone and works in part with a Bluetooth enabled device. The Bluetooth device attaches to items such as keys, briefcases, handbags and more.

If either of these devices become misplaced or lost, Phone Halo Protect alerts users with an audible alarm, SMS text message, and a record of the GPS coordinates where the item was last located.

This innovation is expected to be available March 21 at a purchase price of $70.

Most people with smartphones keep their devices covered with some sort of protective case. However, did you know that many of those cases still allow debris and dirt to get to your phone, which could ultimately cause scratches?

For this reason, Wrapsol created a unique film that protects mobile and other electronic devices. The film is clear for the front of the device and has a matte finish for the back.

Although Wrapsol protects from scratches and nicks, it is not bulky. In fact, users could even put a protective case over the film if they desired.

Wrapsol’s products are currently available on their site but will soon appear in stores such as Office Depot, Best Buy, and Staples.

One of the coolest gadgets that WebProNews saw at CES 2010 was MakerBot’s CupCake CNC. If you’re not convinced of its coolness yet, get ready to be impressed.

The device is a 3D printer that allows users to make just about anything they want. First, users create a design in any 3D modeling software or by visiting Thingiverse, which is a community of people who share their designs.

After a design is created, MakerBot turns the design into a physical 3D model and the machine starts printing. The objects are made with ABS plastic and can be up to 4″x4″x6″.

MakerBot is an open source 3D printer that ranges in price from $750-$950. Not only does WPN think MakerBot is cool, but Google does as well. According to MakerBot Industries the giant search company has purchased multiple devices.

How would you like to wash your keyboard? Although it sounds a bit absurd, it is possible, thanks to Seal Shield. The company produces a line of dishwasher safe products consisting of keyboards, mice, and remote controls.

The company came from the medical industry and wanted to create a product line that would prevent the spread of bacteria and infections. According to Seal Shield, around 90,000 people die every year in the U.S. as a result of transmitted bacteria and infections.

With Seal Shield’s products, consumers are able to put the devices in the dishwasher, soapy water, and more to ensure that they are disinfected often. Most of the company’s products include its Silver Seal protection, which is an antimicrobial protection that helps prevent microbial growth and other bacteria.

With the one exception of the ability to be submerged in water, the keyboards, mice, and remote controls look and feel just like normal ones would. Incidentally, the company also revealed a Seal Cell waterproof cell phone at CES that is yet to be available.

Although Case-Mate began as a company that created leather products for mobile devices, the company quickly expanded its product line. At CES 2010, Case-Mate had several new products on display and WebProNews stopped by their booth for a closer look at their innovations.

First on the list was a case with a battery inside of it. This case can give a mobile device up to 2 times extra charge. There is also a lighter version of this type of case that is less bulky.

Secondly, Case-Mate showcased a case that users can customize on their own. Called “I Make My Case,” the program also provides users with the option of using designs from some of the top digital artists in the world. To protect the customization, Case-Mate uses technology to embed the design into each case to ensure that it doesn’t scratch or fade.

Case-Mate also had an ID case that holds credit cards, identification, and more. This case is ideal if someone wants to go out for the night and not carry a purse or wallet.

Fourthly, the company displayed a Hug device that is a wireless charging pad and case. This device eliminates cords and wires. Case-Mate’s Marty Gareau told WPN he believes this type of innovation will quickly become part of everyone’s daily life.

Lastly, the company featured a go-Bare product that is a clear film. It is an invisible solution-free case that acts as a protector.

For more information on all Case-Mate’s products, visit their site.

If you are looking to add feeling to your home theater system but don’t want to get complaints from your neighbors, then ButtKicker may be the answer to your need. At CES 2010, the company showcased a wireless ButtKicker kit for households and WebProNews got the inside scoop.

Unlike similar devices, ButtKicker allows the sound to be completely isolated to the listener. Through its patented technology, the ButtKicker low frequency audio transducers allow users to feel the audio without excessive volume.

Mark Luden told WebProNews that ButtKicker adds to the increasingly popular 3-D experience “by making the feeling of sound come alive.”

The unit easily sits under one leg of a sofa or chair and includes an amplifier that can shake the entire seating area. The kit is also equipped with a remote control to vary the intensity.

The price of the ButtKicker is $299 and is available at www.thebuttkicker.com or www.shakemycouch.com.
