As the social media space has grown, unfortunately, so have the social media gimmicks. Jason Falls, the CEO of Social Media Explorer, calls out some of these scams, if you will, in his new book, No Bullshit Social Media. As he tells WebProNews, social media marketing is all about engaging with with your customers, joining the conversation, and being human as a brand.

But, when you add the word “marketing” to the phrase social media… you’re talking about business. With this in mind, he said that you have to make sure that social efforts match up to business goals.

However, Falls told us that “the rules only apply if they work for you audience.” In other words, social media marketing is not about following a specific formula. Instead, it’s about utilizing social platforms and adapting them to benefit your business.

For 5 years, WebProNews has partnered with BlogWorld and New Media Expo, the world’s first and largest new media conference, in an effort to broadcast how new media can grow your business, brand, and audience. Stay tuned to WebProNews for much more exclusive coverage.

It is clear that Twitter is a valuable tool for business. WebProNews spoke with Jason Falls, the Principal of Social Media Explorer, who believes the reasoning behind this thinking is a result of the “conversational platform” Twitter provides for business usage. It is for this very same reason that he predicts Google will acquire the microblogging service.

Earlier in the year, Falls predicted that Google would buy Twitter by the end of the year. Although it may not happen within that time frame, he hopes and believes it will happen eventually.

Twitter rose in popularity because people were no longer happy with one-way communication models. They now want the two-way communication that Twitter provides. Falls believes Twitter is evolving back to its original purpose and becoming more of a utility for communications, instead of a platform for marketing. Although Twitter can be used for conversational marketing, Falls said it is more about the actual conversation than it is about marketing a product or service.

On the Twitter home front, it doesn’t appear that the Twitter founders are working to improve the tool and they have yet to find a monetization model. Falls believes they are trying to build a large critical mass in order to sell. He hopes Google will buy it since it is a company that desires to build utilities for people to communicate on.

Do you think Twitter will be acquired? Do you agree with Jason Falls and believe Google will acquire it?

WebProNews attended the debut meeting of the Social Media Club Louiville chapter and now some 16 months later, WPN covered another meeting with special guest speaker Chris Brogan. SMC Louiville has developed dramatically since its initial meeting last year.

SMC Louiville became a nonprofit corporation in January of this year. As Jason Falls, the President of the club, explains above, SMC Louiville is striving to become a valuable resource on social media to the southern region. The group is holding boot camps in order to bring in expert speakers to make the events even more effective.

Jason is encouraged since other social groups are rising up and joining their cause because it gives southerners a larger Web presence. As these groups come together, he hopes they will be able create new ideas and ultimately solve problems.

Many people have the misconception that Kentucky is lacking in the SEO, SEM, and social media industries. However, the turnout from the first meeting of the Social Media Club in Louiville, Kentucky, revealed that the people in this region are hungry for more knowledge on these topics.
