The popular trends seem to always come back. We’ve seen it with fashion and vehicles, and now, we are beginning to see it with online marketing. In an interview with Webpronews at the SES conference, Stone Temple Consulting President Eric Enge talked with us about this trend back to old-fashioned, online marketing. According to Enge, the “hard sell” approach to a website is not working any more. The trend now, is reverting back to the consumers. Marketers have to actually build relationships with the users.

On the subject of spam, Enge believes it is here to stay. It is important that companies understand spam, since some of it is valid. They need people to be able to sort through the Spam and pick out all the good content.

Enge has recently started podcasts on his site about analytics and search. Although it’s still a learning process, it has already done well. Since the tags within the podcast can be treated as a marketing tool, it is important to make good use of them. RSS feeds are being crawled during each podcast. It is a bad idea to allow podcasts default to 302 redirect. These are helpful tips that most people are not aware of, but they should be if they are interested in doing a podcast.

Eric Enge is a busy man! In addition to all the topics discussed already, he is a contributing writer for Search Engine Watch. Whether it is right or wrong, he enjoys incorporating his opinion into the news. Despite Danny Sullivan starting Search Engine Land, Search Engine Watch is still doing well. This proves that a lot of space is available, which means there is room for everyone.

Shane McAllister, Business Development Manager for MagneticTime, talks about his company’s services at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo. MagneticTime has a pretty unique service that allows people to upload text documents from Word or email, and have them transferred to mp3 files.

The idea behind this is that people are increasingly overwhelmed by information and don’t have time to read. MagneticTime, by creating a file that can be listened to instead of read, allows people to do other things while catching upon the information necessary to them.
