With people being increasingly drawn to video content, everyone is trying to capitalize on video sharing sites such as YouTube. There is, however, one problem: it isn’t always easy. Greg Jarboe is hoping to help marketers in this area with his new book entitled: YouTube and Video Marketing: An Hour A Day.

YouTube is known for funny videos such as cat or children videos. While these videos may go viral, they will likely only produce a one-time audience. In other words, these kids and cats may not to do the same thing again, which means there would be no reason for viewers to return to that channel for more content.

To be successful on YouTube, users cannot simply upload a single video. Statistics show that in an average minute, 24 hours of video has been uploaded to YouTube. As a result of this large amount of competition, Jarboe suggests that users create a series of “compelling content” in order to bring viewers back continually.

Users have to have a reason for wanting to come back to a particular YouTube channel and it is up to the content providers to produce that desire. Is your YouTube channel creating that appeal?

Why is video so hot right now? According to Greg Jarboe of SEO-PR, the reason people are creating videos right now is because so many other people are as well. It is simply a chain reaction.

In this video from SES NY, Greg discusses several topics and questions regarding video. Monetization is a hot topic surrounding video since many people struggle with it. On the positive side, initial startup costs are feasible for most users and are only going to get better. Remember the Blendtec campaign? They started with $50 dollars and produced 5 videos, which gave them a 700 percent increase in revenue.

Video can be done on a small budget, but ongoing video campaigns can become expensive. Greg says that each video needs to have its own marketing objective and also be monetized individually. He goes on to say that “every video doesn’t have to go viral to be a success.” Whether or not your business meets your objective is the factor that determines success.

Marketing video is another hot area of interest right now. According to Greg, marketers have to realize that video marketing doesn’t follow traditional marketing standards. He also says marketers need to understand video segmentation. The whole world is not your audience. Businesses do not need to attract a mass audience to meet their goals. Instead, they need to determine who their target market is, and then act accordingly.

Advertising and video have had their fair share of differences from the beginning of the online video boom. Greg says the ad’s placement isn’t the challenging issue. However, the relevancy of the ad’s placement is what really matters. Video advertising will get easier and better and Greg indicates that that time is not too far down the road.

All this information and more is featured in Greg Jarboe’s upcoming book, YouTube and Video Marketing: An Hour a Day that is set to be published in August.

Speaking on research which states that only half of SEMs use analytics, SearchEnginePosition‘s Rob Sullivan exclaims “Why, in this day and age, are there still search marketers who aren’t measuring return? I gotta say: Come on people!” Let’s extend that to anyone… not just search marketers (where the need is, perhaps, a bit more obvious). “Come on people!”

In an interview with WebProNews, SEO-PR‘s co-founder, Greg Jarboe has this to say about the importance of analytics; “If you don’t know where your leads are coming from… God bless you, good luck, write me when you get work. It’s like anything else, you can’t manage what you can’t measure.”

Who can argue? Perhaps, truer words had not been uttered during the whole of 2006′s SES? Yet, we know for certain that some exist who don’t measure. Is it budgetary? Not likely. Even cursory knowledge of Google’s services reveals the existence of free analytics. Maybe it has something to do with awareness? Doubtful. Analytics services are rampant, as are their advertisements across relevant websites.

So, what’s up? “Come on people!”

Jarboe leaves us with this strong call to action;

“Get started wherever you can… start measuring… and move as fast as you can to measure more. It’s marketing insight. There’s a lot of conventional wisdom out there that is dead wrong…. and you don’t know until you look at the data.”

Greg Jarboe. President and co-founder of SEO-PR, has years of experience when it comes to writing optimized press releases for news search engines, as well as managing PR for tech and web companies across the United States. Greg took out time to talk with Mike McDonald of WebProNews at PubCon, filling us in on an interesting proposition he has for several prominent bloggers to consider.

Lee Odden, Rand Fishkin, Andy Beal and Barry Schwartz were members of a PubCon panel who eagerly volunteered when Jarboe threw down the blogging gauntlet. As metrics play such a vital role in search marketing, Greg challenged bloggers to consider not only the content of their respective blogs, but the style in which the content is presented. Would readers respond more favorable to information presented in a straight up news style, how-to instructions, or simply opinion-based commentary? Greg and WebProNews are both itching to find out.
